It is closer to invariance than to incorrigibility, not because it is beyond correction, but because it is integrated into a regime in which correction can occur through public work.

The public turn therefore reshapes the relationship between certainty and truth. Early modernity still seeks certainty, and it still dreams of the unshakable. Once this move is available, it becomes easy to transform philosophical disagreement into a diagnosis of the opponent’s immaturity. Disagreement is no longer treated as evidence of unresolved problems; it is treated as a symptom of partial consciousness. This is closure by reinterpretation: the opponent is not wrong, they are merely not yet within the whole.

The temptation of finality returns in a new medium: “the model says so” can function as a contemporary analogue of “the system contains the answer.” The danger is that the aura of systematic coverage becomes an excuse to close inquiry. The idealist lesson is therefore not that systems are inherently suspect; it is that systems invite a specific misuse: the conversion of coverage into authority, and authority into incorrigibility.

To preserve what is valuable in the idealist project while resisting its closure temptation, the present article will later propose an AI Era reinterpretation of absoluteness that makes corrigibility non-negotiable. The idealists teach that absoluteness, if meaningful, must concern architecture rather than isolated facts. But they also demonstrate that architecture, if treated as complete, produces a closure impulse that is culturally and institutionally exploitable. The way out is to keep the architectural insight while denying finality. Architecture must remain publicly revisable, not merely internally self-justifying. A system can be a regime of legibility only if it can be corrected by what it fails to accommodate, rather than by re-labeling failure as immaturity.

This chapter therefore yields a precise intermediate conclusion. German Idealism changes the meaning of “absolute truth” by shifting it from a property of propositions to a property of a whole, whether named Spirit, Idea, or system. XI. The AI Era Problem: Absolute Truth After the Separation of Logos from the Human Subject

The outputs can resemble the surface signals by which modern institutions have historically recognized knowledge: terminological stability, argumentative structure, citation-like gestures, and confident tone. These signals were never perfect, but they were coupled, in print regimes and academic regimes, to costly pathways of production: drafts, editorial constraints, peer audiences, and reputational risk distributed over time. In the AI Era, the cost structure changes. Coherence becomes cheap, and cheap coherence can be deployed in volumes that overwhelm verification capacities.

This produces a new scale of plausible falsehood. Plausible falsehood differs from ordinary error. Ordinary error can be detected because it often breaks internal consistency or contradicts well-known facts in obvious ways. Plausible falsehood is consistent, stylistically competent, and locally reasonable. It is especially dangerous in zones where most audiences lack direct access to primary evidence, and where knowledge is normally mediated by trusted institutions. In such zones, the difference between “seems true” and “is true” becomes easy to exploit, because the mechanisms that usually convert seeming into warranted belief depend on time, attention, and institutional filtering. Generative systems can imitate the forms of filtering while bypassing the substance of it.

This is why absolute truth becomes simultaneously more desired and more vulnerable. It becomes more desired because epistemic anxiety increases: if plausible speech can be produced without responsibility, people crave stable anchors. It becomes more vulnerable because the phrase “the absolute truth” can be used as a shortcut precisely when verification is difficult. In earlier chapters, absolutism’s danger was identified as incorrigibility disguised as invariance. The AI Era amplifies this danger by providing a high-throughput machinery for producing incorrigible-sounding texts: statements that carry the cadence of proof, the posture of finality, and the aesthetics of expertise, while remaining detached from traceable sources.

The result is not merely a misinformation problem; it is a transformation of what counts as epistemic friction. In pre-AI public regimes, friction was often supplied by production constraints and institutional pathways. A claim had to travel through journals, courts, scientific societies, or editorial gatekeepers, each of which left traces and imposed delays. In the AI Era, friction migrates from production to verification. The burden shifts toward readers, reviewers, and infrastructures that can supply provenance and correction after the fact. This shift is the conceptual bridge to the next subchapter. If the output can no longer be treated as truth-bearer by virtue of its form, then truth must be stabilized elsewhere, and the place where it must be stabilized is public legibility: the traceable conditions under which a claim was produced, checked, and revised.

2. From “I Think” to “It Thinks”: The Shift in the Carrier of Legibility

In Leiden, Dutch Republic, in the seventeenth century, René Descartes, philosopher (1596–1650; La Haye en Touraine, France), makes the modern subject the classical carrier of certainty under the governing conflict faith vs reason by grounding knowledge in methodic doubt and the authority of clear and distinct perception. The AI Era introduces a decisive discontinuity: the most visible outputs of logos, coherent argument, explanation, definition, and even pseudo-proof, can be produced without a human subject as the immediate authorial source. This does not mean that humans disappear from the causal chain; models are trained, deployed, and used by human institutions. It means that, at the surface where public legibility operates, the speaking voice is no longer reliably tethered to a person whose intentions, competence, and sincerity can be interrogated in the traditional way. In this setting, truth can no longer rely on “the subject’s sincerity” or “the author’s authority” as primary stabilizers. Those stabilizers become, at best, secondary signals that can be simulated.

This shift can be formulated with the article’s central transition from “I Think” to “It Thinks.” The phrase is not a poetic flourish; it names an epistemic relocation. The carrier of legibility moves from the interior subject to external configurations: models, prompts, toolchains, retrieval paths, publication pipelines, and institutional disclosure practices. In the pre-AI imaginary, even when institutions mattered, the author remained a central node: the one who could be praised, blamed, sued, corrected, or discredited. In the AI Era, the immediate generator of text may be a configured system whose outputs are neither straightforwardly intentional nor straightforwardly accountable in the older moral sense.

The philosophical consequence is that we must distinguish two kinds of accountability that were previously entangled. The first is personal accountability: a subject stands behind a claim. The second is infrastructural accountability: a claim is accompanied by the traces that allow its evidential status to be evaluated and, if necessary, corrected. The AI Era forces these apart because personal accountability cannot reliably cover the entire output surface. A model can generate ten thousand plausible pages while no human could, in the same time, sincerely vouch for each proposition as personally verified. The question is not whether the humans involved are honest; the question is whether honesty can scale as a truth-guarantee when generation scales beyond human review.

This is also why absolute truth becomes tempting as a rhetorical compensation. When the subject can no longer serve as a stable guarantor, some audiences respond by seeking stronger declarations, not stronger procedures. They seek voices that sound absolute. Yet the AI Era makes voice a fragile basis for epistemic trust, because voice is precisely what generation can simulate most easily. The older economy of credibility, in which a confident explanatory style was correlated, however imperfectly, with training and responsibility, becomes uncoupled. A system can now produce the style of expertise without the discipline of evidence.

The more adequate response is not to nostalgically re-install the subject as the guarantor, but to relocate legitimacy to what can survive public inspection. This is the point at which the article’s earlier distinction between invariance and incorrigibility becomes operational. Invariance is a property claims may aim at; incorrigibility is a posture that blocks correction. The AI Era increases the need for invariance in certain domains, such as definitions, protocols, and formal distinctions, but it also increases the risk of incorrigibility as performance, because the performance can be mass-produced. Therefore the carrier of legibility must be redesigned so that correction is not humiliating or exceptional but built into how claims exist publicly.

This redesign motivates the next subchapter’s reformulation. If the carrier of legibility is no longer the subject, then the primary question cannot remain “Is it true?” understood as a direct interrogation of an authorial assertion. The primary question becomes “How is truth stabilized publicly?” meaning what procedures and infrastructures allow a claim to be evaluated, contested, revised, and re-stabilized without collapsing into mere persuasion.

3. The New Question: Not “Is It True?” but “How Is Truth Stabilized Publicly?”

In London, England, in the seventeenth century, the emergence of scientific societies already began to shift truth’s public life toward procedures, but the AI Era completes the shift by making procedural infrastructure the central site where truth can remain strict. The relevant conflict is rhetoric vs proof, now intensified by scale. When persuasive text can be produced cheaply, proof must be anchored not in style but in traceable constraints. The question “Is it true?” remains meaningful as an ontological and semantic question, but it becomes insufficient as a public question, because the public environment is saturated with truth-like forms. The new public question is “By what route does this claim become credible, and what would make it revisable?”

This reformulation is not a capitulation to post-structural skepticism. It is an application of earlier lessons. Law showed that legitimate closure can be produced without metaphysical infallibility by explicit standards and records. Science showed that objectivity is stability under replication supported by instrumented practice. Hermeneutics and discourse analysis showed that public truth has infrastructure. The AI Era makes these insights unavoidable because it removes the possibility of relying on the author as the default stabilizer.

Four notions therefore enter as conditions of legitimacy in the AI Era and function as the conceptual bridge to the Aisentica Framework developed later in the article.

Provenance becomes essential because claims must be traceable to sources, methods, and contexts rather than to a voice. Provenance is not merely a citation aesthetic; it is the ability to reconstruct how a statement was produced and what it depended on, including whether it was retrieved from a source, inferred, summarized, or generated speculatively. In a saturated environment, provenance functions like a chain of custody for epistemic objects.

Disclosure becomes essential because the relevant features of production must be made public enough to allow assessment. Disclosure includes methodological constraints, data sources when appropriate, tool involvement, and the boundary between verified content and model-generated conjecture. Without disclosure, a claim can only be assessed by trusting the speaker, which is precisely the form of trust the AI Era destabilizes.

Versioning becomes essential because truth in public life is not a single utterance but a record that can be refined without being erased. In print culture, editions and errata performed this function. In digital culture, version histories can make correction visible and auditable. Versioning protects truth from the two symmetrical pathologies of the AI Era: the illusion of finality, which treats the first fluent output as absolute, and the loss of accountability, which allows texts to mutate without trace.

Corrigibility becomes essential because the capacity to revise is no longer merely an ethical stance; it is an infrastructural property of claims that must live in public space. Corrigibility means that corrections can be made without destroying the integrity of the record, that revisions can be tracked, and that retractions can be distinguished from silent deletions. Corrigibility is the anti-incorrigibility principle operationalized. It prevents “absolute truth” from degrading into a slogan by ensuring that even strong claims remain exposed to public challenge.

These conditions collectively redefine what it means for absolute truth to be a serious phrase in the AI Era. Absolute truth cannot mean incorrigibility, because incorrigibility is now easy to simulate and socially dangerous to accept. Absolute truth can, at most, mean that a claim aims at invariance under transparent constraints and that it is embedded in a publication regime that makes verification and correction possible. The shift is therefore from metaphysical absoluteness as a property of reality, to public absoluteness as a property of legitimacy: the claim is held to standards that do not depend on personal authority, local charisma, or rhetorical intimidation.

This chapter’s synthesis can now be stated as the hinge of the article’s overall argument. Generative systems introduce a new scale of plausible falsehood by producing coherent text without guaranteeing truth, making absolute truth simultaneously more desired as an anchor and more vulnerable as a rhetorical weapon. XII. Aisentica Framework: Reframing “Absolute Truth” as Algorithmomorphic Legitimacy

1. Anthropomorphic vs Algorithmomorphic Absoluteness

The point of introducing Aisentica here is not to compete with pre-AI theories of truth as if they were “outdated,” but to give an explicit vocabulary for the shift already diagnosed in the previous chapter: the public question of truth is increasingly about legibility, provenance, and corrigibility rather than about the aura of a speaking subject.

The first operation of Aisentica is a controlled distinction that clarifies why the phrase absolute truth becomes so easily weaponized. Anthropomorphic absoluteness is the form in which truth is treated as the voice of a subject. The claim appears absolute because a person, a leader, a prophet, an expert, or an institution speaks with the authority of presence. The psychological economy of this mode is familiar: certainty is communicated through tone, charisma, confidence, or moral intensity. Even when evidence is offered, it is often anchored in the implicit premise that the speaker is the kind of person whose sincerity, competence, or status should settle the matter. Anthropomorphic absoluteness therefore tends to transform the question “What is true?” into the social question “Who is entitled to be believed?” and, in crisis situations, into the coercive question “Who is permitted to disagree?”

This mode is not confined to religion or politics. It appears whenever truth is made to depend on a privileged interiority, whether that interiority is conscience, genius, revelation, or the cultivated gaze of expertise. In early modern philosophy, the subject becomes a paradigmatic anchor for certainty.
